Events & Field Trips
May
3rd - Bird Banding Demonstration
10:00 - 11:30 AM at the Observatory
We will offer detailed information on BSBO's migration
studies, provide up close looks at beautiful spring
warblers, thrushes, and vireos and share more about the
amazing passage of these birds as they utilize the
critical stopover habitat that Ohio represents. Basic
bird identification will be included, so bring your
favorite field guide! The Observatory is proud to offer
these educational programs FREE to the public, however,
donations are always welcome and help support all the
Observatory's research and education efforts! Join us
for this unique opportunity at the Observatory
located just inside the entrance to Crane Creek State
Park and Magee Marsh.
Hot
Dog Luncheon &
Snack Bar Fundraiser

May 4th – Sunday Morning Guided Bird Walk
Meet
at the Observatory at 8:00 AM.
Join
BSBO every Sunday morning April 27th through June 1st,
as we explore birding hotspots such as Magee Marsh and
Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. We’ll start each walk
with a trip around BSBO’s brand new and relatively
unexplored walking trail. Participants can help us
determine what birds are using the marvelous scrub-shrub
habitat that our new walking trail loops through!
We’ve put together a team of BSBO’s best birders to lead
these trips, so don’t miss your opportunity to get in on
some of the best birding in the country. These
lively and educational walks are free to BSBO members
and the public.
An
Evening with Kenn Kaufman
Thursday, May 8th – 7:00 PM
SOLD OUT!
Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center
BSBO
& Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge welcome legendary
birder, world renowned author, and highly sought after
public speaker, Kenn Kaufman. In his richly
illustrated presentation: Wings of the Imagination:
Why We Need Birds, Kenn draws on a lifetime of
experiences from Africa to the Antarctic to American
back yards, and explores the mysteries of bird life and
the ways that they can add to our understanding of our
place in the world.
We
are thrilled to announce that Kenn has a new book set to
be released this spring, and he has graciously agreed to
do a book signing that will take place at the conclusion
of his program. Kenn’s new book, Flights Against the
Sunset, as well as all of his other titles, will be
available for purchase in the Refuge Book Store and all
proceeds will benefit the Refuge Association.
Cost
for this event is a $10.00 donation per person. All
proceeds to benefit the ONWR Association and BSBO. The
