In the spring of 2005 Kenn Kaufman’s Birds of North America became the first field guide to the birds of the US and Canada to ever to be published in the Spanish language. Guia de campo a las aves de North America is a testimony to Kenn’s commitment to championing the cause of nature. Kenn funded this project himself in the hopes that this book would help to recruit scores of new birders from among the more than 28 million Americans who speak Spanish at home. In today’s world our natural resources are facing countless threats. Kenn’s idea is that the more people we can awaken to the beauty and importance of our natural world....the more support we win for conservation.

BSBO believes in Kenn’s vision. We have entered into partnerships with the Sonoran Joint Venture and Connecting Cultures (A program of Environment for the Americas) to help us distribute copies of Kenn’s Spanish language bird guide to people across the southwestern US and northern Mexico. These books will be used as valuable tools for bird guide training workshops.

Thanks to hundreds of program supporters, more than 600 copies of the Guia have already been donated! We offer special thanks to caring individuals like Janet Duerr and Steve Shafer. Janet & Steve purchased dozens of copies on their own and distributed them to programs in Guatemala and Mexico. Thank you, so much, Janet & Steve!
