Black Swamp Bird Observatory Nature Store Manager

Position: Nature Store Manager
Location: 13551 West St. Rt. 2, Oak Harbor, Ohio 43449 / www.bsbo.org
Terms: 24 - 30 hours / varies by season
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
 
Nature of Work: The Nature Store Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the BSBO Nature Store, both in store and online, including but not limited to inventory management, volunteer management, displays, and promotions.
 
Supervision Received: Supervision is received from the Executive Director
Supervision Exercised: The Nature Store Manager directly supervises store volunteers
 
Primary Responsibilities                       
  1. Interacting with visitors and processing sales
  2. Recruit, train, and supervise store volunteers
  3. Manage inventory (both in store and online)
  4. Shipping and receiving of merchandise 
  5. Cleaning and maintenance of store
  6. Create and maintain store displays
 
Communication
  1. Maintain accurate records and write reports as necessary
  2. Attend staff meetings
  3. Work with bookkeeper and auditor to ensure accurate accounting
 
Public Relations
  1. Answer questions posed by Observatory visitors
  2. Promote the Observatory’s programs to the general public
  3. Represent the Observatory as necessary and assigned 
 
Work Traits
  1. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  2. Ability to manage a budget
  3. Skills in leadership techniques and management
  4. High degree of motivation and initiative
  5. Enjoy working with the public
  6. Exhibit an ability to work well with others

Required
  1. Licensed and bonded
  2. Demonstrate supervisory and organizational skills
  3. Familiar with the following computer programs: Point of Sale, Excel, Word, Outlook
  4. Available to work weekends
  5. Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
  6. Must be fingerprinted and background checked
 
Preferred
  1. Minimum two years’ experience in a related field
  2. Basic knowledge of and/or interest in birds and nature
